Holiday in Vallarga

Vallarga/Weitental in the idyllic Fleres/Pfunder ValleyExperience South Tyrol

Welcome to Weitental in the idyllic Pfunders Valley, one of the most genuine valleys in South Tyrol. At the entrance to the Puster Valley, right between Bressanone/Brixen and Brunico/Bruneck, you can enjoy your holidays and be in touch with nature, at an altitude of 880 metres above sea level. The village is in a quiet location, embedded in meadows and forests.

Right on your doorstep, you will find the beautiful Gitschberg/Joch Valley hiking paradise with the Pfunders mountains, the Altfass Valley, numerous Alpine meadows, easy walking paths, as well as some demanding mountain hiking trails. The cycle path runs on flat ground the entire way to Lienz in East Tyrol/Austria.

During the winter, the ski resorts are also not too far away: Gitschberg/Joch Valley, Plan de Corones/Kronplatz and the Plose mountain offer well-prepared pistes and a variety of snack bars.

Our tips for a dream holiday:

  • Fleres/Pfunder farmhouses: local craft tradition, active village life and the unique charm of our mountain farmhouses will enchant you. The farmhouse trail is a fascinating circular walkway, passing a number of historic and traditionally cultivated farmhouses in Fleres/Pfunders. Some of these are open to the public. The entire length of the farmhouse trail is around 7 km, but there is also a shorter version which is a little less than 3.5 km. The farmhouse trail is marked with information stations and panels. In addition, this path is designed to keep kid’s attention and is therefore suitable as a hiking trail for all the family.
  • St. Martin’s church in Pfunders.
  • The Fleres/Pfunder Valley hiking paradise, as well as the Gitschberg/Joch Valley offer more than 30 Alpine meadows and even more mountain huts. The Fane Alm is the most beautiful Alpine village in South Tyrol. The Rodengo/Rodeneck Alm offer great views and invites you for hiking trips, Nordic Walking and – during the winter – cross-country skiing.
  • From sheep and wool to Loden… the Loden world of Vandoies/Vintl.
  • Castle Rodengo/Rodeneck was built at the beginning of the 13th Century and has the oldest and most profane frescoes in the entire German-speaking region.
  • The library of the Augustine Canons‘Seminary at Cloister Novacella/Neustift is worth seeing, being home to both the smallest and largest book. The church is built in Rococo style and the herb garden is definitely worth seeing. In the shop, you will be able to acquire wine made in the cloisters, as well as other delicacies. Cloister Novacella/Neustift also happens to be the intersection of the North-South and East-West routes of the famous Jacob’s trail.
  • The bishop’s town of Bressanone/Brixen is the oldest town in the Alpine region and particularly famous for its Baroque cathedral and historic town centre. Don’t forget to visit the castle, the Diocese and Crib museums. Also, have a look into those beautiful shops!!!
  • City of Brunico/Bruneck and Brunico/Bruneck Castle: Right above the town, on a high hill, you will find Bruneck Castle. It is home to Reinhold Messner’s fifth museum, MMM – Messner Mountain Museum RIPA. Every year, guests from other mountain regions in the world, such as Sherpa, Indians, Tibetans, Mongols and Hunza, spend the summer at the MMM and talk about their country and traditions.
  • Panoramic platform at the Gitschberg: The panoramic platform with views of 500 summits of the Dolomites, Ziller Valley/Stubai and Oetz Valley Alps, offers you a very special experience! – Nature is the lead actor!
  • Bergila in Issingo/Issing (Pfalzen): For more than 100 years, essential oils have been distilled here using traditional methods.
  • According to the ADAC leisure atlas, the Folk museum of Toedone/Dietenheim is one of the most beautiful outdoor museums in Europe. Old farmhouses and workshops offer insight into the local architecture of times gone by.
  • Visit the market!
Brunico/Bruneck: every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the bus station.
Farmer’s market in Brunico/Bruneck at the moat: from June to October, every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Bressanone/Brixen: every Monday.
    Bolzano/Bozen: every Saturday.
    Vipiteno/Sterzing: every Tuesday
